At the IFS Conference dinner in December, the Society bade farewell to Steve Hallam, who retired at the beginning of 2025, having run the society for just over 10 years. Steve’s achievements were many, including instigating and helping to develop FerTechInform, which has attracted large numbers of users, as well as overseeing the redevelopment of the website, administering the Brian Chambers Award and a rise in membership numbers. He will be a hard act to follow!
Council members recognised Steve’s contribution to the society with a selection of carefully chosen gifts. Belgian beers and a nice malt whisky were very well received, as was a nature book, but perhaps the closest to his heart was a beautiful bird print by naturalist Peter Scott.
Below, IFS President Anthony Zanelli and Vice President Hans Reuvers present Steve with his gifts.
