The impact on the marine environment of liquid effluents arising from the manufacture of potash, phosphoric acid, ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea and complex fertilisers is discussed. It is accepted that all discharges should be controlled but each situation should be judged on its merits rather than attempting to apply unifarm emission standards. The major constituents of these wastes which nay be cause for concern are identified.
