The purpose of this study was to evaluate existing technologies and integrate them for the recycling of sulphur from ‘clean gypsum’ using clean-energy. The system was assessed both technically and economically for a 100 ktpy P?O? plant, resulting in an estimated capital investment of 390 million USD (MMUSD). Additionally, with conservative assumptions, a revenue of between 54 to 66 MMUSD is anticipated. This technology integration not only enables the recycling of sulphuric acid but also facilitates the recycling of clean gypsum, thereby extending the operational life of existing gypsum stacks. Furthermore, it brings the fertiliser industry one step closer to achieving a circular economy.
